John A. Brooks
President, Chief Executive Officer and Director
John Brooks was promoted to President and Chief Executive Officer and appointed as a director of Penn Virginia Corporation, effective August 15, 2017. Mr. Brooks had previously served in several management roles for Penn Virginia, including as Interim Principal Executive Officer of Penn Virginia Corporation from September 2016 to August 2017, as Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer from January 2014 to August 2017, as Penn Virginia Corporation’s Executive Vice President, Operations from February 2013 to January 2014, Senior Vice President from February 2012 to February 2013 and Vice President from May 2008 to February 2012 and as Penn Virginia Oil & Gas Corporation’s Vice President and Regional Manager from October 2007 to February 2012, Operations Manager from January 2005 to October 2007 and Drilling Manager from February 2002 to January 2005. Mr. Brooks received his B.S. in Petroleum Engineering from the University of Texas at Austin in 1984.
Russell T. Kelley, Jr.
Senior Vice President, Chief Financial Officer and Treasurer
Mr. Kelley previously served as Chief Financial Officer of Extraction Oil & Gas, Inc. Prior to joining Extraction Oil & Gas, Mr. Kelley ran the Oil & Gas practice of Moelis & Company, a global investment bank, where he was a partner and managing director covering upstream and integrated oil & gas companies. Prior to that, he worked at Goldman, Sachs & Co., where he was a Senior Vice President. In such roles, Mr. Kelley has executed over $70 billion of M&A/advisory assignments and has led capital market transactions raising over $15 billion for clients. He has been in the energy and financial sector since 1998, with experience in commodities trading, corporate development, and investment banking. He holds an MBA from The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania, where he graduated as a Palmer Scholar, and a BA from Vanderbilt University.
Vice President and Controller
Ms. Hinkle joined Penn Virginia in 2013 as Director of Operations Accounting and has served as Vice President and Controller since September 2016. Ms. Hinkle has over 35 years of experience in the oil and gas industry, most recently serving as Controller of Gulf Coast Energy Resources and Manager of Operations Accounting of Rosetta Resources, after 27 years with The Houston Exploration Company and its predecessor and successor companies. Ms. Hinkle graduated from West Virginia Wesleyan College with a B.S. in Accounting and a minor in Economics and is a Certified Public Accountant.
Benjamin A. Mathis
Senior Vice President, Operations
Mr. Mathis has more than 25 years of energy industry experience, all of which has been in operations with a primary focus on the drilling and completion functions. Mr. Mathis recently served as Drilling and Completions Manager – US Onshore for Statoil, where he was responsible for Statoil’s drilling, completions and workover operations for the Eagle Ford, Bakken and Marcellus/Utica areas. Prior to that role, Mr. Mathis served as Statoil’s Operations Manager – Eagle Ford from November 2014 to October 2015, Drilling and Completions Manager – Eagle Ford from October 2012 to November 2014 and Drilling Engineer Manager – Onshore from August 2011 to September 2012. Prior to his tenure at Statoil, Mr. Mathis also held positions of increasing responsibility at Occidental and Unocal, both domestically and internationally. Mr. Mathis received a B.S. in Petroleum Engineering from Texas A&M University in 1992.
Vice President, Chief Legal Counsel and Corporate Secretary
Ms. Ryan joined Penn Virginia in October 2014 as its in-house corporate counsel and was promoted to Chief Legal Counsel and Corporate Secretary in October 2016 and Vice President in February 2017. Ms. Ryan has more than 10 years of experience advising oil and gas companies. Prior to joining Penn Virginia, she was an associate at Baker Botts L.L.P. Ms. Ryan received a B. A. in Psychology from the University of Texas at Austin in 2004 and graduated from the University of Houston Law Center in 2007.
Larry A. Tharp
Vice President, Corporate Reserves and Business Development
Mr. Tharp has over 35 years of energy experience, both with upstream producers as well as with technically focused energy finance companies. Prior to joining Penn Virginia in early 2020, Mr. Tharp served as Managing Director and Chief Engineer for GSO Capital Partners, a division of the Blackstone Group. In that capacity, he was responsible for leading technical efforts associated with energy investments in almost every basin in the U.S. Prior to GSO, Mr. Tharp was Senior Vice President at EIG Global Energy Partners, a Director at NGP Capital Resources and Senior Vice President at Compass Bank. Mr. Tharp held the role of reservoir and production engineer at Coastal Oil and Gas, Howell Petroleum, and Texas Eastern Exploration and Production. Mr. Tharp received his B.S. in Petroleum Engineering from Texas A&M University in 1985.
Jill T. Zivley
Vice President, Land and Marketing
Ms. Zivley is currently Vice President, Land and Marketing, having been with Penn Virginia Corporation since May 2010. She has over 30+ years of experience with energy companies, having held various land, midstream, marketing and producer services positions with graduating responsibilities. Prior to joining Penn Virginia, Ms. Zivley served as Sr. Regional Director of Producer Services at DTE Energy Trading, Inc., and in gas marketing or producer services management roles at Occidental Energy Marketing and Enron North America. Ms. Zivley received her BBA in Petroleum Land Management from the University of Texas at Austin, and is a CPL (Certified Professional Landman). She held various land positions with Sun Oil Company, Southland Royalty Company and Phillips Petroleum Company prior to her move into oil and gas marketing at Enron. Ms. Zivley's role includes managing Penn Virginia's land, marketing and midstream efforts.
